TT hosts regional energy conference

Hosted by the Government, Caribbean-Central American Action, US Department of Energy, United Nations Development Programme and the Inter-American Development Bank, the focus of the two-day conference will be the development of regional energy policies that foster sustainable development within the region against the background of fluctuations in the international energy markets, and the formation of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME).

Entitled “Energy and the Competitiveness of the Caribbean,” the conference will also engage leaders from regional governments and regional energy industry (including the small and medium enterprises) to forge partnerships amongst themselves and outside of the region, especially with US-based companies.

TT, Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, St Kitts and Nevis, Bahamas, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines will all have a ministerial presence at the conference. Also in attendance will be representatives from the US State Department, Sao Paolo Environmental Secretariat of Brazil, bpTT, Chevron, Caricom and the University of TT.

Recommendations arising out of this conference are expected to be discussed further at the 30th Annual Miami Conference on the Caribbean Basin which takes place from December 4 to 6 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami, Florida.
