Nine qualify for world triathlon

The national trials took place recently, with only two competitors failing to make the grade, in their respective categories.

In the men’s division, Eligon completed the 1,500-metre swim, 40-kilometre ride and ten-kilometre run in a time of two hours and five minutes, followed by Jason Takhee two hours and seven minutes and Ancil Greene, who clocked two hours and eight minutes.

Stephen Aboud was fourth in 2:14, Ronald Brown fifth in 2:16 and Shawn Pereira 2:17, well below the qualifying time of 2:25. However, Aboud will feature in the 45-49 age group and, for good measure, he easily fell under the qualifying standard of 2:45.

The juniors, between the ages of 16 and 19, also participated in the trials, seeking to complete the course (750m swim, 20km ride and 5km run) in one hour and 15 minutes. Garvin Nero prevailed in 1:05, ahead of Michael Tung 1:14 and Akil Baptiste 1:21.

And Lara Littlepage, with a time of 2:23 was the lone woman to qualify, with Kristin Rojas clocking 3:14.
