‘FIREARMS’ WELDER CHARGED

A police report stated that a cylindrical metal object, shaped like the barrel of a shotgun, was found in the yard of the 50-year-old suspect’s home. The police report stated that a spent 16-guage shotgun cartridge was also discovered on the premises. Police suspect that ammunition had been used to test the home-made shot-gun. The suspect was arrested at about 4.30 pm when a party of police officers, led by Inspector Ramsey, executed a warrant to search for arms and ammunition. A 50-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Siparia Police Station where he was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition. PC Solomon laid the charges.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a fire which destroyed an unoccupied wooden house at South Oropouche early yesterday morning. Police said that they have not ruled out arson. It was owned by a man who had migrated to the United States several years ago. Damage was estimated at $10,000. PC Raju is inquiring.
