Young swimmers attend clinic

This exercise was conducted by three national coaches and Sydney Olympian Sebastien Paddington.

The two-day clinic titled “Goal-setting, making the best of practice and understanding the season” took place recently at the La Joya Sports Complex and the WASA Transport Division in St Augustine.

On the first day at La Joya, the swimmers, aged from eight to 17 were enlightened about details necessary to perform at their best. Making presentations were Paddington along with 1996 TT Olympic coach Edmund Pouchet, this year’s Caribbean Island Swimming Championships (CISC) coach Shawn Pouchet and 1998 World Championship and 2006 CAC swim coach Mark Pouchet.

The issues discussed were: the swimmers’ ability to set realistic, measurable and constructive goals; their sensitivity to the aspects of proper training; their awareness of the relation between training and performance; and the thinking behind a season plan.

This was the first of 12 clinics that Paddington and Pouchet will be hosting monthly until July next year.
