Chiming melodies and ‘hard to shake’ hooks

Pop quintet Quietdrive released their first album When All That’s Left Is You in 2006. The first single “Rise From The Ashes” was featured on the NHL 2007 game soundtrack. With a rep for energetic live shows, the single is an exhilarating mix of buzzsaw guitars, chiming melodies and hard to shake hooks.

G-Unit soldier Lloyd Banks delivers the infectious single off his Rotten Apple album. All the ladies throw their “Hands Up” as Banks raps with an unforeseen tense urgency that manifests itself throughout the song. The theme of survival and success reigns, and made solid by the guest appearance courtesy 50 Cent. The band Early November threw themselves into a project that resulted in an impressive display of their song writing skills, and a rather enjoyable listen. The single “Decoration” comes off the triple disc endeavour The Mother, The Mechanic and The Path, which is thematically based on the strained relationship between a boy and his overbearing father. Their song writing is sharp and engaging, but it takes some time to fully grasp where the band is coming from lyrically.

Ocean Drive is the debut album from R&B singer, song writer Johnta Austin, set for release in 2007. The first single, “Turn It Up” boasts a remix, which features Jadakiss. Bianca Ryan showcases her sweet charm with her performance of “The Rose”. Funny man Jamie Kennedy teams up with Stu Stone on a brilliantly funny mission to take on the music industry by storm. They perform their own original music — the single “1984” which they wrote and recorded together. What’s so great about the track is that while the lines are funny, Kennedy and Stone play it straight, which only serves to make the joke funnier.
