Battle over Marabella sports ground

Caught in the middle of the dispute were Battoo Avenue, Marabella residents who want their PNM Pointe-a-Pierre MP Christine Kangaloo to honour an election promise to construct a sports facility.

The meeting was held on Monday evening at Battoo Avenue and attracted a small group of residents who voted to take protest action unless they get their wish.

A member of Marabella Pioneers, a non-profit sports organisation said the old pavilion, basketball and cricket facilities were torn down before last November’s general election to make way for a new facility.

He said the Sports Company of TT started work on the drainage system and stakes were planted on the ground but this was abruptly stopped and the ground has fallen into a state of disrepair. A meeting with Kangaloo has been scheduled for tomorrow to discuss their concerns.

Kangaloo, the Science, Technology and Tertiary Education Minister, could not be conatcted for comment yesterday.
