Recruit charged with soldier’s death

The recruit soldier who was placed under police guard at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital on Wednesday, was taken from the hospital yesterday and kept at the Barataria Police Station.

Late yesterday, Snr Superintendent Theophillus Cummings gave instructions to Sgt Stewart to charge the recruit soldier with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and illegal use of the Priority Bus Route.

The recruit claimed he was suffering from amnesia on Tuesday after he was found by investigators at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

Martin, 25, of Chaguanas stopped to change a tyre at the Mt Lambert traffic lights at about 9.30 pm on Monday, when he was struck by the driver of a car who failed to stop.
