Phillips also told the young people at the dinner: “Success is you. Not the coaches. The only way you can be successful is to know what success is. Success is a progressive realisation of a worthwhile dream.”

Club President Oliver Camps had earlier noted the relative success of three of the club’s major sports groups in cricket, hockey and rugby.

In cricket, the Division One team won the 40 overs competition, the Division Two and Reserve Teams won their League Competitions and One and Two reached the semi-finals of their Division 20/20 competitions.

Most successful member was Abdul Hakeem Mitchell who was selected on the National Under 19 squad.

Following the hockey team’s successes in the indoor and outdoor game, placing third in both this season, six players were called to the National Senior Team Training Squad — Patrice Padmore, Kecia Jones, Patricia Borneo, Petal Derry, Sekayi Liburd and Reyah Richardson.

Chemika Ellis was selected for national duty on the Under 21 Team, and as part of a Youth Developmental Programme she is pursuing a Law Degree.

Under 23-year-old coach Rowell Gordon, the Under 19 Rugby Team won the National Sevens Championship, and five players are currently on scholarships at the University of TT.Cricketer Abdul Hakeem Mitchell copped awards for Best Batsman, first Team Player of the Year, Limited Overs first Team Player of the Year and Cricketer of the Year.

Maurice Simpson took the Footballer of the Year Award and Club Member of the Year was cricket coach Ron Faria for going way beyond the call of duty as coach.

Before the awards ceremony, members sat down to a tasty dinner of corn soup, Stuffed Chicken Breast, Sliced Ham with Pineapple Bits, Tender Beef Strips in Oyster Sauce, Seafood Melange, Pastelles, Christmas Veggie Rice, Savory Potato Delight, Stewed Pigeon Peas and Garden Fresh Salad. Ice Cream and Cake was served for dessert.

During dinner members were serenaded by police saxophonist David Phillip with resident DJ Small Box taking over after the formalities.
