MerryBoys dethrone Powergen as WIPA Twenty20 champions

NATIONAL youth player Akiel Cooper slammed an impressive unbeaten 122 to lead his club PowerGen to victory over Moosai’s Sports in the latest round of matches in the Eastern Credit Union Reserve League series at Syne Village in Penal.
Batting first, PowerGen tallied an impressive 328/3 declared with Cooper topscoring. Joel Surujbally, 75, and Varoon Samaroo, 35, also contributed.
Moosai’s Sports was then humbled in their first innings for 160 with Samaroo taking 3/12. Following-on the Eastern club made just 90 — losing the game by an innings and 78 runs.
Samaroo, again was the pick of the bowlers with 5/24 — ended with match figures off 8/36.
PowerGen has played four matches in the competition, winning two matches, drawing one and one ending in a no-result.
