W Connection clash with Guatemalans in ‘League’

The Guatemalans face the Trinidadians in a Group “D” match.

On Saturday at Estadio Edilberto Bonilla, Comunicaciones suffered its first loss of the domestic season, 1-0 to Jalapa 1-0 on Gregory Ruiz’s goal in the 17th minute. W Connection are still searching for their first group stage victory after a 2-2 draw with Pumas at Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella last Wednesday.

The Savonetta Boys were bounced from the First Citizens Cup by Ma Pau 3-1 in Marabella on Friday. It was the five-time champions’ earliest exit from the tournament. “Our performances in all three matches have been satisfactory,” W Connection coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier said after the draw against Pumas.

“(The Pumas match) was a high performance game, but we lost concentration in injury time and allowed the equalising goal. It was disappointing for all of us but we can take a lot of positives from the match.” Hughton Hector scored the lone goal for W Connection, the defending champion, with a 51st-minute free kick against Ma Pau.

Fevrier, though, is still confident with three games remaining in the Group Stage of the Champions League. “We still have three games, two away from home and we are confident that we can do better,” Charles-Fevrier said. “We will continue preparing for better performances.”
