Lingo advances at Tranquillity

Lingo, the top seed in the draw, did not drop a game against De Silva as she underlined her status as the player to beat in the competition.

Also winning impressively was IBM ITF Under-14 champ Breana Stampfli who took care of Alexandria Williams in two sets. The third seed lost two games in the match, prevailing 6-1, 6-1.

Number two seed Dayna Grazette got past Jazz Morgan 6-4, 6-3 as she seeks to earn a place in her second final in three years since losing to Carlista Mohammed in 2008. Emily Hart took care of Chelsea Mitchell without dropping a game while Elyse Maggiori dispatched UWI 2009 champion Atlyn Soleyn in two 6-1, 6-1.

Highly rated junior Trevine Sellier defeated Bridgette Garcia 6-0, 6-4.

In other matches, Cindy Kabli came from a set down to beat Amanda Soo Ping Chow 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-0 while Olivia Johnston got past a battling Leah Alcala 7-6 (5) in the first set before claiming the second 6-1. In the Men’s Singles, number four seed Ivor Grazette backed up his straight sets win on the opening day with an easy victory over Athelstan Phillips yesterday.

Grazette lost just two games in his opening match against James Mitchell on Saturday and conceded only one more yesterday against Phillips 6-2, 6-1 to secure a place in the last eight.

Favourite Yohansey Williams eliminated Adam Suite from the competition with a comprehensive 6-0, 6-0 demolition. Seventh seed Adrian De Silva got the better of Jermille Danclair 6-1, 6-0 while the unseeded Michael Clarke defeated number eight ranked Seve Day 6-3, 6-4.

In the other matches, Fabien Dummett cruised past Richard McLetchie 6-1, 6-2 while Coca Cola ITF St Lucia champion Vaughn Wilson had no problems against Jabrille Kabli, winning 6-2, 6-3 to earn a place in the quarter-final round.

National Singles winner and last year’s finalist Richard Chung was in action against Arvinda Maharaj yesterday evening under lights.

Two Veterans Singles matches were scheduled but only one took place as Brian Jackson defaulted his match against Swaran Maharaj. Dipnarine Rampersad got his first taste of action, defeating Peter Moore in round one 6-2, 7-6 (8).
