TT dominate Carifta splash

One event later, Baptiste won the 200m IM for 11-12 males in 2:24.55.

He was just outside the Carifta record held by Dylan Carter which stands at 2:23.88. Sachin Sankar’s 2:43.68 earned him7th place.

Florida-based mermaid Tyla Martin continued her golden individual run copping her 7th individual gold of the meet in the 100m freestyle. She again made an entry into the Carifta record books, erasing the 1995 time of TT’s Cerian Gibbes (1:02.03) with a remarkable 1:01.74 finish.

Meanwhile, Baptiste continued his golden run on the night mounting the podium one event later for winning the 11-12 male 100m freestyle. He stopped the clock on 58.49 to win the two lap event.

Still in the 100m freestyle, Joshua Romany won the 13-14 male event in Carifta record time of 53.64. Teammate Dylan Carter completed the one-two on the event for TT by taking silver in 54.77.

Christian Homer touched the wall first in the 15-17 200m IM, speeding home in 2:09.19. Jonathan Cabral was 8th in 2:20.91.

The seventh and final gold medal of the night came via the 4x200m freestyle relay of the 13-14 boys. Carter, Keegan Boisson-Yates, Blaine Sobrian and Romany combined to register a time of 8:27.73 in the event.

Staying with the relays, the 15-17 female team of Kimberlee John Williams, Samantha Rahael, Makayla Armstrong and Kadeja Phillip missed gold by 12 hundredths of a second. Suriname won the event in 9:04.86, with TT second in 9:04.98. The national 15-17 male team of Jonathan Cabral, Stefan Sharpe, Cadell Lyons and Homer had to settle for bronze in the event in 8:17.78.

Samantha Rahael earned silver in the 200m IM and 200m butterfly.

In the IM, Rahael (2:23.61) was beaten into second place by rival McKayla Light Bourne (2:23.05) of the Bahamas.

Rahael copped another silver on the night in the 200 metre butterfly (2:28.83).

Kadeja Phillip was third in 2:30.93.

Boisson-Yates took silver in the 13-14 male 200m IM in 2:20.01. Rejan Chin (36.07) and Cherelle Thompson (36.28) were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 15-17 female 50 metre breaststroke. Ryan Rigues got silver in the 15-17 male 50m breast in 31.53.

John Williams was the runner-up in the 100m freestyle in 59.68 seconds. Syriah David was also second but in the 11-12 female 200 metre butterfly in 2:42.91. The silver run for TT continued with Romany touching the wall second in the 13-14 male 200 metre butterfly in 2:18.75. Homer was third in the 15-17 200 metre butterfly in 2:12.73.
