Landslip in Moruga
The landslip is so bad that the dual carriageway road is squeezed into a single lane as one of the lanes has collapsed. “The landslip is gradually eating away at the road. We have been complaining for quite some time now but nothing is being done,” stated a resident.
The only items on the roadway to alert motorists that part of the roadway has collapsed, are two rusted bent up barrels placed on either end of the collapsed lane of the road.
The resident proposed that the Works and Transport Ministry construct a retaining wall to halt the progress of the landslip and then rebuild the damaged road and repave it.
“Every day the landslip gets worse and just now the barrels will also fall into the land at the side of the road. This is an extremely dangerous situation as a vehicle or vehicles could easily run off the road because of the landslip,” a motorist said. Member of Parliament for Moruga/South Tableland Clifton De Coteau said he was aware of the landslip as well as other road problems in his constituency. He further said that files about these problems have been forwarded to Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner.
“Mr Warner (Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner) has promised to have all these things fixed. Loney Road in Indian Walk has been a problem for the longest while. The village has been cut off a few years now because of the road condition,” De Coteau said. “It was too expensive for the Princes Town Regional Corporation to repair and the matter was referred to central government. But the previous government did nothing. I know in the fullness of time, Mr Warner as Works and Transport will treat with the issue,” De Coteau said.
