Pro League takes a break until October

The Lucozade Sport Goal Shield will be staged from July 23 until August 13 while the First Citizens Cup will be held shortly afterwards — the dates are yet to be confirmed. And, in September, Trinidad and Tobago will be hosting the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup.

The League’s main focus, for the next few weeks, will be the Goal Shield, which was introduced last year — W Connection defeated Defence Force 3-0 in the final at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

This year, only the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya is available for action, since the other major stadia (Hasely Crawford in Mucurapo, Larry Gomes in Arima, Ato Boldon in Couva, Dwight Yorke in Bacolet and Manny Ramjohn) are under refurbishment for the World Cup.

The Goal Shield kicks off on July 23 with a qualifier round (for the lower-placed teams in the Pro League), while the quarter-final matches will be staged on July 30 and 31. The semi-finals will be contested on August 6 and the final on August 13.
