TT Badminton men earn CAC bronze
In the team event the TT men suffered a shocking defeat to regional neighbours Jamaica in the semi-finals.
First local badminton ace Kerwyn Pantin was defeated in the opening match of the semi-finals by Charles Payne 21-14, 23-21.
Countryman Anil Seepaul lost his first set 21-17 fist set Jamaican Garron Palmer but levelled the match 1-1 with a 21-15 victory, only to go down 21- 10 in the deciding game.
Trinidad and Tobago got their consolation victory through Rahul Rampersad who defeated Kashif Bernard in straight sets.
A determined Rampersad, after seeing his countrymen beaten in the earlier games, won 21-15, 21-16 to give this country the bronze.
Meanwhile, TT marksmen failed to advance past the opening round of the 50 metre rifle shoot.
The trio of Sheldon Waterman, Curtis Blunt and Aftab Khan produced scores of 578-19x, 580-26x and 578-18x respectively in the elimination rounds and took an early exit.
In volleyball the Trinidad and Tobago women suffered a 2-1 defeat to Costa Rica in game two of Group “A”. The TT women lost the first two sets 25-18, 25-17, before getting a consolation win in the third 25-22. At squash Trinidad and Tobago’s Colin Ramasra advanced to the quarter-finals of the men singles, but was beaten by Eric Galvez of Mexico in a thrilling encounter.
Earlier, Ramasra who earned a bye in the preliminary round (Round of 32 ) to disposeof James Bullock of Jamaica 3-0.
First he secured the opening set by clobbering Bullock 11-7, 11-4, 11-8.
To make it into the round of eight.
Female swimming sensation Shantelle McLean and Cherelle Thompson failed to advance out of the preliminary rounds of their respective heats in the women 100 metres freestyle.
