PM praises Commonwealth athletes
Persad-Bissessar paid special tribute to Roger Daniel, Rhodney Allen, Cleopatra Borel-Brown, Tariq Abdul Haqq, Aaron Armstrong and Ayanna Alexander who all received medals in their respective disciplines.
She also praised the administrators, coaches and other vital support staff who contributed to the success of the Trinidad and Tobago team while noting it is the high point of any athlete’s career to represent their country at an international tournament.
The Prime Minister stated that she was proud of the performances of the athletes participating amongst 54 countries and pledged her support to athletes in Trinidad and Tobago.
While the nation’s athletes were competing at the Commonwealth Games there was a Trinidad and Tobago delegation in London seeking other Commonwealth interests such as improved trade and developing relations with other nations.
Alexander received her silver medal for the women’s triple jump while Borel-Brown continued her consisted Commonwealth performance with a silver in the women’s shot-put. Boxer Tariq Abdul Haqq collected a silver medal after an impressive run in the Super Heavyweight division. Roger Daniel got a silver in the 25 metre standard pistol and teamed up with Rhodney Allen for the bronze medal in the 5- metre pistol pairs. Armstrong was a bronze medallist in the men’s 100 metres.
