Shooters Reloaded win in South/Central

Scrapers, who hail from San Fernando, batted first but started off miserably, losing their first wicket with just one run on the board. But a brilliant knock of 37 runs from Kemal Mohammed guided them out of trouble in partnership with Dion Collins as they posted a respectable 94 runs for the loss of five wickets from their 15 overs.

Central’s Shooters were in deep trouble at their turn at the crease, losing two wickets without scoring a run. They slumped to 16 for the loss of four wickets with M Bernard doing the damage with three wickets for just 12 runs.

But the Shooters fifth wicket partnership of Terrance Rampersad and Kammeer Drikpaul fought back to take the score to 64 in the 10th over when Rampersad was dismissed. But Drikpaul batted intelligently to shepherd the innings with an entertaining knock of 34 to carry his team to 97 for five and secure victory.

Meanwhile, last year’s South/Central champs Old Mac Old Road Sports beat Bustin Loose by three wickets to notch their fourth victory of the campaign. Batting first, Bustin Loose were dealt an early blow, losing their first wicket with just six runs on the board. They recovered to take the score to 28 when they lost their second wicket. The introduction of Old Road’s N Kowlessar to the bowling attack curbed Bustin Loose who were dismissed for 83 in 19.4 overs. Kowlessar finished with figures of two wickets for 10 runs from four overs while A Marcus grabbed three for seven. H Sooroojpaul top-scored with 11.

Old Road were in cruise control on 69 for one with V Choon on 30 and A Ramoutar on 10 when a wicket fell which sparked a middle order collapse that threatened to squander the excellent platform set by the top order. Four wickets fell dramatically as Old Road slumped to 69 for six but S Bachan showed a cool head to steer his team home with a patient 14 runs as Old Road stumbled to 85 for seven to wrap up what was expected to be a comfortable win.
