Gordon, Borel-Brown top NAAA athletes

Borel-Brown copped the top female award from the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) recently.

Grodon, a former Queen’s Royal College (QRC) student also walked away with the Junior Male Athlete of the Year and has been the first athlete to have won the top award in the junior and senior divisions.

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Anil Roberts called for better performances among the TT athletes this year, as he said it would be the qualifying year for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.

Roberts also called on Gordon to better the performances of American Edwin Moses — who amassed a record of 122 consecutive wins in the 400 metre hurdles during his career.

To date Gordon, who turned professional in June last year, secured the gold medal at the World Junior Championship in Moncton, Canada in the 400 metre hurdles and has a season best time of 48.47 seconds.

The lanky Gordon also set a blistering 13.41 seconds in the 110 metre hurdles in Georgetown last year.

Borel-Brown has a personal best throw of 19.03 metres which was achieved in August last year at the London Grand Prix, which adds to an indoor distance of 19.48 metres that she achieved in 2004.

Borel Brown got the nod for the top female senior athlete ahead of Kelly Ann Baptiste who set a blistering 10.84 seconds in the 100 metres early last year which, at the time, was the second fastest time for the year among the women.

Kai Selvon was voted the top female athlete for 2010.
