Tobago trio on ammo charge

Marion James, 58, a senior public servant employed as a Records Manager at the Tobago House of Assembly (THA); her son Dersean James, 27, an ex-fireman who is now a fisherman and Quasiann Robinson, 19, a bar tender of Delaford, appeared before Senior Magistrate Annette McKenzie in the First Court on a charge of being in possession of the ammunition illegally at the James family home at No 1 Petunia Lane, Coral Gardens, Buccoo.

Detective PC Jullian McMillan, of the Old Grange Police Station, laid the charge. The defendants were represented by attorney Samantha Lawson. They all pleaded not guilty.

The defendants were reportedly arrested after lawmen executed a search warrant at the home and allegedly seized the ammunition.

A styro-foam crate containing cylindrical objects said to be ammunition, which was wrapped in a white plastic bag and placed inside a black plastic bag, was tendered before the court as an exhibit (evidence) by Prosecutor Sgt Willie Davis. Meantime, in keeping with the ‘‘disclosure’’ requirement of court procedure, Station Diary extracts from the Old Grange Police Station dated February 8 and a copy of a search warrant were handed over to the accused person’s attorney.

Marion James and Robinson were each placed on $75,000 bail with a surety that must be approved by the Clerk of the Peace.

Dersean James, who according to court records, has a matter pending, was placed on $100, 000 bail with surety to be approved by the Clerk of the Peace.

He was also ordered to report to the Old Grange Police Station on Wednesdays and Sundays and keep a record in a note-book which must be presented to the court whenever the matter comes up for hearing.

McKenzie warned that failure to adhere to this conditionality would result in Dersean’s bail being revoked and him being placed in remand custody until the determination of the matter.

The defendants are to reappear in court on February 24.
