Kissoondath named MVP at Preysal Coaching Clinic

For his commendable exploits with the bat and ball over the past couple months, Kissoondath was given the unanimous nod by club coaches who saw great improvement and determination emanating from the young man. Kissoondath was also named Most Valuable Player in the 13-15 age group while Denzel Antoine was named Best Batsman, April Ramootar awarded Best Bowler and Kiddel Rajkumar voted the Best Fieldsman.

Attending yesterday’s presentation ceremony were members of the club executive - Camal Basdeo (chief executive officer/secretary), Tony Harford (chairman), Manzur Baksh (vice-chairman), Prakash Sookhai (head coach), Eugene Antoine (technical director), Anil Kamal (National League and Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board secretary) senior and junior team players and a host of youngsters who took part in the recent Digicel developmental programme.

In the 10-12 age bracket, Dillon Balkaran was crowned Most Valuable Player while Alexander Chase (Best Bowler), Djenaba Joseph (Best Batsman) and Jerron Alexander (Best Fieldsman) also captured honours.

And in the seven to nine division, Ubaidullah Abdoel was awarded the prize for the Most Valuable Player. The Best Batsman went to Akeal Rooplal, Best Bowler was presented to Jaden Joseph and Best Fieldsman given to Adrian Mahase.

During the presentation of awards and certificates of completion to the spirited bunch of kids, were members of the executive. In a short chat with the young cricketers, Kamal expressed pleasure with the Preysal club for the increased influx of female cricketers into their training system. He highlighted past club representatives such as Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul and Shannon Gabriel for setting a stern foundation for the youth to stand on.

“This club properly balances its cricket with the academic developments of their children and it shows. It seems to be mandatory here and things can only look up for Preysal, especially at the grassroot level,” he said.

Coach Sookhai also commended the dedication of the parents who have presented their kids with opportunities for sport progression.

He also lauded the high number of children joining the club, all of which will soon benefit from flood lights in the process of being erected at their home grounds.

Technical director Eugene Antoine also credited the hard work displayed by the youngsters and urged them to step up to more sport-oriented challenges.
