Marissa’s move gets its own name
In February, Dick’s signature move was officially recognised by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
A move she perfectly executed at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow.
The Canadian-born gymnast’s move is a change-leg leap to free-cross split sit which is called “The Dick”.
In the article headlined, ‘The Gymnastics Move That Must Not Be Named” the WS J said that Dick “won’t make it out” of the Olympic qualifier which was held yesterday in Brazil.
The article said Dick winning a single medal, “would be as stunning as three-time world champion Simone Biles not winning several.” The WS J noted that Dick finished 74th on the beam event at the most recent world championships, where she unveiled her signature move.
The WS J reached out to FIG about the name of Dick’s signature move and they said, “We would like to underline that there are more spectacular new elements expected than her new move.” The article indicated that Dick has tweaked her signature move adding a technical element __ switch leap with a half-pirouette that lands in a split on the beam. Dick said she knew what she would call the sequel if she pulled it off yesterday.
“The Dick II.”
