Lara welcomes young Canadians
Those kind sentiments were made at the Canada High Commissioner’s office in Port of Spain yesterday where the TT sports ambassador and multiple world record holder joined the Canadian High Commissioner to welcome the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Mayor of Toronto team to TT where they are scheduled to play a series of matches against the Power- Gen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) National Under 17 team and a Tobago SSCL team during their one-week tour. Lara said: “On behalf of everyone in Trinidad and Tobago, let me gladly welcome all of you to our country and to feel at home and know that Trinidad and Tobago is your second home. I know you are eager to play cricket against our players and I wish success in your matches.”
Lara jokingly said, “you can win two matches out of five and that will be regarded as being a very successful tour.”
Gerard Latulippe, the Canadian High Commissioner, who was spending his final day of his three-year official duties in TT also extended warm welcome to the youthful Canadians and told them that “you will really enjoy your stay in Trinidad and Tobago because there are so many nice people here who will make you comfortable and truly love the place.”
Latulippe leaves today for Canada but called upon the youngsters “to be good ambassadors for Canada and to enjoy your stay.
You are entrusted with the responsibility to make all Canadians proud of what you do here and I truly wish that you win some of the matches that will help you in the future as you endeavour to develop yourselves to become very good players and good role models.”
