Ramasra falls on TT squash return

Ramasra officially announced his retirement from the sport in the middle of last year but decided to make a return to squash to increase Trinidad and Tobago’s chances of winning the team competition at CASA. Ramasra, who is unseeded in the draw, defeated Stewart St John of Barbados 11-3, 11-4, 15- 13 in round one. Unfortunately in round two Ramasra fell 7-11, 7-11, 9-11 to Jamaican Julian Morrison.

The only men’s national player to advance to round three was Nku Patrick. After earning a first round bye, Patrick got past James Bentick of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States 11-8, 11-1, 11-1 in round two. The national trio of Marie Claire Barcant, Alexandria Yearwood and Faith Gillezeau all advanced to round two of the women’s singles in straight set wins over Barbadian opponents.

Barcant outlasted Jada Smith Padmore 11-9, 13-11, 11-7, Yearwood defeated Jada’s twin sister Jodi Smith 11-9, 11-3, 11-7, while Gillezeau got past Lynn Mcleod 11- 8, 11-4, 11-6.
