Busy NYLO interns continue to discover media world
The NYLO interns began their day in an ecstatic mood as they quickly observed that the front page of the day’s newspaper featured a photograph by fellow intern Xavier Sylvester while another page featured a photo by intern Chequana Wheeler. Interns at Newsday’s Port-of-Spain division wasted no time as four interns took up the challenge to cover the launch of a music competition by the Trinidad and Tobago’s Patriotic Sound Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Education .
Intern Ana-Lissa Jack, who covered the event, described the opportunity as “wonderful” and the fact that she was given an opportunity to write an article for the newspaper as an “accomplishment.” Busy completing the day’s tasks, interns assigned to the paper’s Pagination department were not even available to be interviewed as they were engrossed in building the paper’s Editorial section for the following day .
With the Olympics being the talk of the town, sports interns Keston Charles and Nickoli Madray had a full plate to devour as they not only paid careful attention to the progression of the Olympic games but they also attended a press conference in relation to the 2016 Junior Track Cycling Championship .
NYLO Interns Shawnelle Martineaux and Ethan Maynard who are assigned to the paper’s Features department revealed that the highlight of their day was shadowing a senior reporter’s interview with a high-profile sportsman. Not to be left out of the action, interns based at the South and Tobago branches were also out and about covering developing stories in their districts .
Not to be outdone, Newsday’s NYLO experience concluded the eventful day with a handful of interns participating in the Editor’s meeting where they were given a chance to have an input into the decision-making process of choosing the paper’s cover photo and lead stories .
