TTMA: Servant of the people
The Association said the famous March on Caroni on March 12, 1970, was instructive as it showed that bonds of love and brotherhood that existed between members of this country’s African and Indian communities.
The TTMA further stated that Daaga continued to keep the consciousness of the Trinbagonian population alive in the history of the Afro-Trinidadian when he successfully campaigned to have August 1, declared a public holiday to commemorate Emancipation Day.
This was achieved in 1985.
Noting that Daaga’s focus on nation building led to him being awarded this country’s highest honour, the Order of the Republic of TT, the TTMA said Daaga, “remained humble, gentle and modest in success.”
