WASA leaks leave Paramin dry

The Authority was responding to Newsday’s questions about the situation, following an appeal to this newspaper by Christiana Eugene, to help her get answers about when exactly WASA would be resuming supplies to households along La Belle Vue Road, Upper Paramin.

Eugene had told Newsday she believed a malfunctioning pump was to blame for the lack of water but WASA said it was in fact leaking pipes.

“The customer in question (Eugene) resides at the highest elevation in Paramin. As such any issue along the system that may impact the pressures, will affect the water reaching the higher levels of Paramin.

While there is no malfunctioning pump at this time, there have been several leaks that have occurred in recent times that have affected the supply reaching the high points. Two such leaks were repaired on Tuesday 9th August and the scheduled supply to the area; Wednesdays and Saturdays, is expected to normalise thereafter,” WASA stated.

Eugene also lamented having to pay $300 for two 400 gallon tanks of water.

Newsday therefore asked if WASA’s free water delivery service was not in effect for Upper Paramin.

“WASA’s water truck service is free of charge to customers and this can be accessed by contacting our Call Centre at 800-4420 or 800- 4426. Anyone being asked to pay for this service is advised to report the matter to the Authority’s Call Centre.

However, it should be noted that there are private water trucking operators, who charge a fee for the delivery of water,” WASA said.

Although she had not received pipeborne water since early June, Eugene still got billed by WASA.

Regarding this, WASA explained that its “billing system is fixed, however adjustments can be requested in the event of non-service.” WASA stated that customers wishing to question their bill, relative to the receipt of a supply, must do so by officially querying their bill in writing or at any of the Authority’s Rate Payment Centres.
