‘A good one’ shot dead

Both police and the relatives of the deceased are trying to find out why gunmen would want to take St Louis’ life. Speaking to his father, Stanley, Newsday was told that his murder came as a complete shock, as he was known in the area as “a good one”.

“I want to know what reason they do this for,” said Stanley, “I not going to do them anything you know, I just want to know why they did this. The man was just trying to build a little house for his family.

He grew up here.

Everyone in the area know him since he was a little boy. Everyone know him as a good one.” Stanley told reporters yesterday that the last time he spoke to his son was on Tuesday afternoon, after he had returned home from plying his trade as a welder. Hours later, at about midnight on Tuesday, Stanley heard the volley of gunshots that ended his son’s life.

“When the first shot buss, it sounded like a firecracker,” Stanley recalled, “Then I heard about six or seven. I tried to call him because he was supposed to be nearby, but when I called, it rang three times and I hung the phone up,” Stanley said after a few moments he tried calling again, but to no avail. He continued looking out for St Louis, until a neighbour called him with news of his son’s death.

Relatives described St Louis as a humble and easy-going man who worked as a welder. Newsday also understands that he is the father of a nineyear- old boy. Homicide detectives are also trying to ascertain a motive behind St Louis’ death, as he was not known to them for any criminal activities.

While detectives are investigating St Louis’ murder, Newsday understands that police have discovered the identity of one of the two men whose bodies were found at sea at Invaders’ Bay on Monday last.

Police say that one of the men has been identified as Anderson Martin, who had two addresses Mentor Alley, Laventille, and Sam Boucaud, Santa Cruz.

According to reports, fingerprints of the two men were taken and it was discovered that Martin had a string of convictions for various crimes.

Autopsies are expected to be performed on Martin and St Louis at the Forensic Science Centre in St James by tomorrow.
