Man to stand trial for shooting at cops
Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Nanette Forde-John, who presides over the San Fernando First Magistrate’s Court, delivered the ruling on Tuesday.
Stoute, 25, of Palmyra, located on the outskirts of San Fernando, was charged with shooting at Sgts Hosein and Victor with intent to do them harm, possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
All the alleged offences occurred April 10, 2010, at Union Road, Marabella, in the vicinity of Fens Furniture store.
Then Assistant Superintendent Cecil Santana (ACP on pre-retirement leave) laid the charges.
All the charges were laid indictably and so when Stoute made his first court appearance back in 2010, he was not called upon to enter a plea.
Stoute went on trial before Forde-John about two weeks ago and the State led evidence.
A total of four prosecution witnesses gave evidence and upon completion the court ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against the accused.
Yesterday the magistrate granted Stoute $85,000 bail to be approved by a Clerk of the Peace.
Sgt Dianath Harricharan prosecuted.
