Man gets 18 months jail for store breaking

Shevon Hodge, 42, formerly of Princes Town, appeared before Senior Magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine in the San Fernando First Court, charged with store breaking with intent after he was found hiding behind an air-conditioning unit on the roof of Anil’s Collection on High Street, San Fernando. According to police reports, the owner secured his business place at 5pm on August 27 and when he returned on August 29, discovered a hole in a concrete wall leading into the store.

He alerted officers at the San Fernando police station and a search of the building was conducted and Hodge was discovered hiding on the building’s roof. Nothing was stolen from the store.

Asked whether he agreed with the facts of the charge as presented by the police prosecutor, Hodge nodded and offered an apology to the Court saying he was “very sorry” for the offence.

However, asked by the magistrate whether he had broken the wall to gain entry into the premises, Hodge said he was not thinking and had acted on the spur of the moment.
