Man killed in Arouca

Superintendent Neville Sankar of the police Northern Division told Newsday that officers who were on patrol responded to a call at about 2 am that someone was shot in the area.

When they arrived on the scene, they found Charles’ body slumped outside the house and also observed that he was shot multiple times.

Charles was dressed in a light blue Tommy Hilfiger shirt, short khaki pants and white Nike sneakers.

Sankar stated that up to yesterday afternoon the police had no motive for the killing of Charles who lived at Pine Ridge Heights, Arouca.

Reports are that Charles was with a group of friends at the bar when he got into a confrontation with someone. Charles was shot dead shortly after leaving the bar.

When Newsday visited the scene yesterday, an occupant of a house at Royal Promenade Road said he was awakened by the gunshots and only after he got out of his bed to see what had happened he learnt of the identity of the victim.

He said he knew Charles to be a “cool fella” and a good technician, who fixed and installed air-conditioning units. However, before disappearing back into the house, he said he didn’t know anything more about what happened nor about Charles except that he use to hang out in the area.

Similarly, the occupants at the bar claimed no knowledge of the crime. Newsday also spoke to someone of the SWAT office who said she heard the shots but knew of nothing else since their cameras face the opposite direction.

Sankar said Charles had no police record and that they were in the process of “tracing” for more information on him.

Cpl Bennett of the Homicide Division is continuing the investigation.
