Ex-prisoner sues State for fall in prison toilet

Ryan Matthew Powder, of Windy Hill, Bon Air North, Arouca, had to undergo spinal surgery almost two years later.

According to his lawsuit, filed by attorneys Alana Rambaran and Kent Samlal, Powder walked into the toilet area on September 8, 2013, when he slipped.

He said the toilets were in a dilapidated state and not operating properly which led to inmates having to fill bucket to flush the toilets.

As a result of a constantly running pipe, used to fill the buckets, and inappropriate and dirty tiles used for the flooring, Powder said he slipped and sustained injuries to his back and left leg.

He was taken on several occasions to the prison infirmary and when the pain medication subscribed to him offered no ease
