A dedication to King Austin

The other is Portrait of Trinidad, sung by the Mighty Sniper. While there is some debate as to who wrote Portrait, the best information I have is that it was written by Len Ward (Mighty Penman).

A few months ago, I created a lyric video for Progress. A lyric video is one in which the lyrics of a song are superimposed on the vocal track. In this case, I enhanced the video so that the lyrics are scrolled karaoke-style, making it easier to sing along. It can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.

com/watch?v=QHRalnaeCl4 You can also find it by searching on YouTube for “King Austin Progress lyrics”. Today, I dedicate it to the memory of the late, great King Austin.

As Ras Kommanda said, “He was a good one, a very cool gentleman.” An interesting postscript to the story of Progress is that Devine said he wrote it for the Mighty Sparrow, Calypso King of the World, but he didn’t sing it. Incredible. I wonder if Sparrow was ever asked if he had regrets about that.
