Father of 3 killed at home

According to reports, Vishnu Persad, who police said was known to them for the cultivation of marijuana, was sitting on a stool, shortly after 12.10 am, when he was shot.

Persad’s common-law wife and three children who were in a bedroom ran out when they heard the shot and found the man slumped to the ground in a pool of blood.

Officers of the Rio Claro Police Station were alerted and a party of officers from the Eastern Division, including Inst Bernard Etienne, Sgt Gadar, Corporal Singh and a district medical officer, visited the scene.

The area was cordoned off and a search was carried out in the vicinity of the murder scene.

Weeping relatives told Newsday that although Persad planted marijuana, he was not involved in any criminal activities.

They said he never complained to them about any threats to his life, but police believed that his murder is linked to cultivation of marijuana. Homicide officers are continuing inquires into this latest murder
