Champagne taste lands man in jail
Brian Gaskin of Mon Repos appeared before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay in the San Fernando First Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning.
The court heard that Gaskin, on Sunday at Gulf View, La Romaine, broke into the home of Keisha Parahoo- Baal and stole US$1,800, TT$1,010, one bottle of champagne valued at $600, one bottle of Johnny Walker Whiskey valued $360 and a perfume set valued at $350.
He pleaded guilty to the charges laid by Cpl Shaun Mohammed of the San Fernando CID.
Police prosecutor Cleyon Sedan told the Court that at about 7.30 am, Parahoo-Baal secured her home and went to bed.
It was while in her bedroom, the woman heard noises inside her living room area.
She then heard a male voice. Sedan said the fearful woman ran into her bathroom and locked the door and telephoned police officers at the San Fernando CID. Cpl Mohammed immediately responded to the distress call and arrived at the house where he spotted Gaskin near an open window.
Sedan told the magistrate that when Mohammed identified himself to Gaskin, he attempted to run to the back of the house.
Mohammed gave chase and detained him a short distance away attempting to climb over a wall. He was taken to the San Fernando CID where he was charged for house breaking and larceny.
Dubay commended Mohammed for his quick response and hard work in apprehending the man.
