AG: Govt helping Judiciary

Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi made this comment ahead of today’s ceremonial opening of the 2016/2017 Law Term.

Responding to questions from reporters at the post-Cabinet news conference at the Office of the Prime Minister in St Clair, Al-Rawi identified moves towards the introduction of plea bargaining, the elimination of preliminary inquires and a full analysis of the backlog of cases in the courts were some of the ways in which Government is seeking to help the Judiciary.

He specifically identified, “resource allocation to be given to the Judiciary of TT for them to have their independent management and their own budget,” as a top priority for the Government.
