Man who died in police custody suffered heart attack
“I cannot explain what happened to him that afternoon,” said his common-law wife, who did not wish to be named.
“But when I was giving the statement to police officers, he was already dead.
They could have told me that he had passed away when they were talking to me.” According to reports, officers of the Valencia Police Post responded to a report on Friday afternoon, that a man with a cutlass was threatening to kill three persons.
When officers arrived at the scene, they were told that Hernandez was inside a house at San Pablo Trace, Valencia, armed with a cutlass.
Officers stormed the house and subdued, Hernandez, but while he was in custody, he allegedly suffered a short seizure before collapsing.
A pathologist concluded that he died from heart failure due to a long standing cocaine dependency.
