Time for responsibility

In his Republic Day message to the nation, the Prime Minister said the republican spirit which calls to all citizens today demands an equal sharing of the challenges and legacies that we face collectively. “Let us not flinch to fight the good fight, so that we can finish the course in a place that gives us the best opportunity for the quality of life which was this republican dream,” he declared.

Observing that the country is at a pivotal point in its history, in light of the challenging economic circumtstances that it faces, Rowley said now is the time to make the right decisions that will determine, “our social and economic well-being for many years ahead.” The Prime Minister was confident that with, “sound judgement, responsible governance, prudent management and determination to succeed against the odds, we do indeed have prospects for a very positive future.” Recalling the chronology of this country’s journey to republican status, Rowley said the nationalist sentiment that collectively burns inside of all citizens must be used, “to fuel our passion for taking this country steadily forward, towards constant improvement with a view to us all being the best that we could be individually and collectively as a nation.” To this end, the Prime Minister appealed to all citizens to assemble at the Queens Park Savannah today for the National Day of Interfaith Service, “to stand together in prayer and thanksgiving for the many blessings that have been bestowed upon our young nation.”
