Gopeesingh wants Garcia out

He criticized Garcia for what he considered to be a late start to school repairs since, “more than half of the country’s primary schools are 50 years old and in urgent need of continued restoration and renovation.” The former Education Minister noted that the PNM has not constructed any new Early Childhood Care and Education Centres, completed any new Secondary Schools and have stopped construction on 70 schools initiated under the People’s Partnership which are still under construction.

Gopeesingh chastised other decisions made in the education sector such as stopping of the laptop programme - started under the People’s Partnership - abandonment of the Continuous Assessment Component (CAC), shutdown of After-School Homework Centres, non-provision of any new textbooks, reduction in school feeding meals, removal from the SE A curriculum significant aspects of Physical Education, Visual and Performing Arts, which were contributing to the realization of development of the fullest potential of the child. Efforts to reach Minister Garcia for a comment yesterday proved futile.
