TT Powerboat official Garth Marshall passes away

Marshall died at Vitas House in St James and leaves behind his wife Pixie and son Jono.

Remembering the life of Marshall yesterday, secretary of the TTP BA Alfred Bell reminisced, “Garth was extremely passionate, power boat was his life. I joined the Association at the executive committee level in 1999 and Garth was already there. He has been involved in the Association as a racer, he was very much involved in the mechanics.

He was building engines and rigging boats since those days, he was actually involved in powerboating from since then.” Bell added, “he was the kind of fellah who never wanted to say no - that has its own issues in a competitive environment. Garth always wanted to please everybody, he has a heart of gold. But at the same time, he is very knowledgeable so you would go to him for advice. He will take the time and spend with everybody whether they are seasoned powerboat racers or novices starting for the first time.” Bell noted that whenever tempers and voices would rise, Marshall was quick to defuse tensions and quell any conflicts, stating: “People, people, everybody calm down!” Colin Murray, former Events Manager at Carib, noted that Marshall played a key role in helping acquire sponsorship for the popular Carib Great Race and stated they would eventually become good friends.

The TTP BA facebook page stated, “we are very sad to announce the passing of our dear friend, powerboat racing enthusiast, and vice-president of the Association Garth Marshall after a short battle with lung cancer.

“Garth has an extremely long and distinguished history in the sport of powerboat racing in Trinidad and it was truly his passion.

His commitment to the sport is evidenced in him being the Association’s longest running executive committee member for 20+ years.

He has also served multiple terms as the president.” The statement added, “we have all known Garth to always tackle problems head on and he was quick to volunteer wherever any need arose. He shouldered difficult challenges without complaint and always, always looked on the bright side. He will surely be missed. The Association offers condolences to his wife Pixie, his son Jono and all those in the Marshall/du Coudray family. May our brother “Garthos” Rest In Peace.”
