Humphreys goes for Tobago ping pong hat-trick

The tournament was originally expected to serve off at Scarborough Secondary but there was a change of plans yesterday “due to a major unforseen circmstance” according to the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association.

In order to be victorious this year, Humphreys, the number one ranked player in the country, will have to overcome 74 other registered participants with the major challengers being Yuvraaj Dookram, Arun Roopnarine, Reeza Burke and Alaric Humphreys. The tournament serves off at 9.30am with the Boys and Girls Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 21 categories as well as juniors and cadets.

Tomorrow the men and women in the senior division will do battle.

With the absence of Aleena Edwards in the Women’s category, there will be a possible showdown between the defending champion Linda Partap- Boodhan and Brittany Joseph for the top prize.

The Mungal brothers, Sarvesh and Amresh, remain favourites to clinch the Boys Under 21 category with Brittany Joseph predicted to win the Girls equivalent. In the Girls Under 18 age group, defending champion Jasher De Gannes will be competing alongside Chelsea Fong and Joseph.

The Boys Under18 division will see battle among national and Carenage Blasters teammates Luc O` Young, Joshua Maxwell and Matthew Mootra. Organisers have asked all participants to be at the venue at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match.
