Schoolboy still critical
She added, “he is not out of the woods as yet.” “The doctors said that they gave him an antidote and were flushing the poison out of his system, as well as giving him fluids so that he would stay hydrated. But they told us that it would still be a few more days before they know for sure whether he will make it or not.
Right now we are just praying for him to survive this,” said the woman.
It was reported that at about 8 am on Thursday, Mootilal Rattansingh, 51, who was going through a divorce with his wife, grabbed his son from a school bus outside the youth’s primary school in El Dorado and took him in his Hyundai Tucson SUV. They went to Kernahan Village near Cascadoo Trace.
The man then swallowed a quantity of powdered Larnate and forced the boy to ingest some. The two remained slumped over in the father’s vehicle until a passer-by noticed them and alerted the police.
Officers led by ASP Nisha and including Insp Ken Lutchman, Cpl Singh and Cpl Maharaj arrived to find Rattansingh already dead and the body unconscious with a weak pulse. The child was rushed to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where he received emergency treatment and up to press time, remained warded in a critical condition.
An autopsy performed on the body of Rattansingh yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre in St James confirmed that he died from multiple organ failure due to poisoning.
Relatives told Newsday that funeral arrangements are still being made.
