Van Der Zwet wins overall title at Tobago Classic

Van Der Zwet finished third in stage four yesterday but his consistency throughout the four stages ensured he finished at the top of the podium.

Winning the division one 60- lap event yesterday was Norlandy Sanchez (Dominican Republic/ Team Foundation), while Gerron Williams (Guyana/Team Foundation) was second. Finishing behind Van Der Zwet was Louis Diaz of Venezuela and The Braves Cycling Club.

In Division Two, Jabari Whiteman (TT/Southclaine) sealed the overall title after winning the stage four 20-lap event.

Romello Crawford finished second in the final stage, while Tremayne Forde-Catwell (Barbados/ Swift) was third.

In Division Three yesterday, D’Angelo Harris (TT/Unattached) won the five-lap event ahead of Tariq Woods (TT/Team Woods) and Dexter Henry (Tobago/ Unattached).

The Tobago International Cycling Classic will culminate today with the gruelling UCI (International Cycling Union) 1.2 Tour of Tobago from 7.30 am. The event takes cyclists throughout Tobago in a 120km race.

Following the Tour of Tobago today many of the cyclists will travel to Trinidad to compete in the Beacon Cycling on the Avenue event on Tuesday.
