Housewife charged with DUI

It was the woman’s second offence, police reported. She recorded a breathalyser reading of 109 micrograms, 74 micrograms over the legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitre breath.

Police said she explained to officers that she was returning home after a night out liming with friends.

Officers conducting drunk driving exercises are reporting seeing a slight increase in females who risk their lives and those of others by driving under the influence of alcohol. The previous weekend, two women were arrested in Chatham and fined $7,000 each for drunk driving when they appeared in the Siparia Magistrates’ Court.

Over the weekend, 12 people were arrested and charged in a DUI exercise carried out by Sgt Gosine and his team of the South Western DUI Unit.
