‘PH’ driver stabbed to death
The killers earlier boarded Jeffery’s car in Point Fortin. A police report stated that Jeffery was plying his private Nissan B14 car for hire when he picked up three men who later hijacked and ordered him to drive to North Trace in Cap-de- Ville.
Jeffery was robbed of a gold chain. When he failed to return home, a search was mounted and at about 9 am yesterday, his car was spotted along North Trace where there are scarcely any houses. Police said the bonnet of the car was up and there were blood stains on the front passenger seat. Officers later found Jeffery’s body which was partially nude, in a drain. Police said this was the 349th murder recorded for the year. Officers at the scene noted a stab to Jeffery’s chest.
Jeffery’s murder shocked his relatives and neighbours with an aunt and brother both telling Newsday that he was a person who never drank alcohol, smoked or limed.
Jeffery, they said, had been retrenched as a labourer with OAS Construtora following work stoppage on the highway to Point Fortin.
With his severance money he purchased a vehicle which he used to run as a PH taxi.
Aunt Avion Liverpool told Newsday that Jeffery was supposed to pick up his mother Theresa Jeffery, 52, at a secondary school in Point Fortin at about 6 pm on Monday after she finished work there as a janitor. He last spoke to her (his mother), Liverpool said, at about 4.30 pm to confirm their arrangement.
“He called his mother and confirmed that he would be on time, while he worked his ‘PH’.
That was the last time she heard his voice.” Liverpool said when Jeffery did not show up and did not arrive at home the police were notified. She said it appeared that persons in North Trace Road saw a commotion and they too telephoned the police. Hours later, the man’s body was found in a drain.
