Call to pay blind arrears

In a statement, the union said the backpay is owed for the period of January 2010 to December 2012, in a settlement signed two and a half years ago. Alleging discrimination against the workers, the union said they must be treated as first class citizens.

The union called for the resignation of association head Kenneth Suratt and the management, and added: “The union wises to remind the public that despite promises from the executive officer that the payment would have been made by September 30, the workers are still awaiting their just due. The contemptuous, arrogant and insensitive attitude of those in authority towards the physically challenged in our society must cease if we are to develop First World nation status,” said the statement. The union said it has placed its “members on standby to pursue whatever actions will be deemed necessary to resolve this situation in their interest.”
