Talks on vending
The Mayor said he did not want to pre-empt the Council’s discussion regarding illegal vending except to point out that members of both the Municipal Police and Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), have embarked on an exercise to clear the southern city’s pavements of illegal vendors.
At a recent Statutory meeting, Hosein had observed that persons could purchase almost anything from vendors who ply their trade along High Street in San Fernando from green seasonings to clothing, jewelry and car accessories.
Hosein also declined comment on the City’s plans to address the crime rate saying he still had not met with either the Acting Commissioner of Police (South) or the Senior Superintendent for the Southern Division despite having letters despatched to their respective offices calling for discussions on the way and means of not only tackling crime in the southern capital including robberies, pick-pocketing and burglaries but also to come up with a strategy to have the public partner with both the TT Police Service and the Municipal Police force.
