Bailor paid, but woman’s relatives still imprisoned
An angry Carter said the bailor never fulfilled his agreement and she has since learnt from him the transaction was never completed as a result of the bailor discovering that the deed for his property which he was using was “not good.” Carter, 55, of St Joseph Street, San Fernando said he promised her a full refund but, she is still waiting on him.
Carter asked, “How some of these bailors could do poor people that? It wasn’t easy to make up get that $12,000.” In August, Joshua and Brown appeared before a magistrate in the San Fernando Court on gun related charges. They were granted bail in the sum of $100,000 each.
She told Newsday she was introduced to the bailor who asked for $17,000 to take their bail.
On August 29, she met him at a fast food restaurant in San Fernando and paid $12,000 - the balance of $5,000 to be paid when the paper work was finished. Carter said the bailor even promised to pick her up at her home the following day and transport her to Golden Grove so she would be there to receive Carter and Brown upon their release.
“I still waiting for him to come home and pick me up in his car, ” Carter went on to say. “Since then I making phone calls to find out what going on.
The day he finally answered he gave me the story about his deed not being good.
It is real advantage, he took my money and never helped the children in any way.” Carter said on Monday she contacted him again about refunding her her money and he told her he was trying to gather the money.
She asked, “Why did he spend it in the first place?” Newsday contacted bailor William Snell who apologised for disappointing the family.
“I was trying to help her out and I feel stupid now,” Snell told Newsday as he went on to explain that the land he purchased 17 months ago was never properly transferred from the original owner.
“Is only when I tried to use it for bail that I ran into problems.
I know I have to give them back their money and I am trying to make it up.” .
