Tips Wearing Makeup Glasses
Today we will be discussing some tips and tricks to maximize your look, while rocking your frames! Firstly, there are a few things that you should take into consideration. The colour, thickness and size of your frames are all determining factors in what makeup will be the most flattering.
Colourful frames can be statement pieces and can either stand alone with very clean, minimal makeup, or can be played up with pops of colour for a more dramatic look. Generally speaking, thicker frames can also be quite dramatic, and will better suit minimal eye makeup, and a bolder lip, if that is your preference.
If you have smaller frames, then you will probably want to avoid excessively dark eye makeup, as this will cast too many dark shadows around your eyes. However, if you have larger frames, you can wear almost anything you desire on the eyes, since your eye makeup will be fully visible through your frames. If you feel adventurous and want to play with colour, try applying a brighter shade such as green or blue to the lower lash line. If you’d rather play up your lips, try a bold shade like red, coral, bright pink or even purple for a night out.
Let’s move on to some tips that will help you to achieve the most flattering look with your frames.
Complexion You definitely want to prime your skin, particularly the areas where your glasses touch your face, making your makeup rub off. Opt for lightweight foundation such as BB cream or tinted moisturizer, as this will be more forgiving if it fades in certain areas. If you prefer heavier coverage, ensure it’s a long-wear or water resistant formula, to minimize fade and transfer.
Since frames can cause a dark cast under the eyes, be sure to brighten the under eye area with a concealer 1-2 shades lighter than your foundation.
If you have darkness under your eyes, try applying a peach toned colour corrector first, to cancel out the dark tones. Contouring will help to redefine the facial structure, which can tend to get lost behind your frames. A light sweep of blush will perk up the complexion. The final step for your skin will be to spritz your face with a makeup setting spray, to seal in your makeup, and further prevent it from rubbing off.
Eyebrows Normally, your eyebrows frame your face; however, if you wear them, your glasses will frame your face, and your eyebrows will frame your glasses. You should neatly define your eyebrows to create a balanced look. Unruly or uneven eyebrows can throw off the balance of your face, so if you prefer natural eyebrows, skip filling them in, but comb the hairs into a neat shape, and set them in place using a clear eyebrow gel such as Anastasia’s Clear Eyebrow Gel, to ensure they maintain their shape all day.
Eyes As previously mentioned, stay away from dark eyeshadows, especially underneath your eyes, if you wear smaller frames, as this can make your eyes appear small, droopy and dark. Use lighter toned, satin shades to brighten up the eyelid. You can use smokier shades to define the crease of your eye if you desire.
Likewise, you don’t want to make your eyeliner too thick, as this will diminish your eyelid space, thus making your eyes appear smaller. A thin line of winged eyeliner will lift and define your eyes. Mascara should be water resistant, so it doesn’t transfer onto your glasses. Opt for volumizing formulas as opposed to lengthening formulas, so your lashes will be less likely to touch your lens
Fun tip:
Did you know that there are makeup glasses? If you need glasses to see to apply your makeup, there are frames with flip down lens; you work on one eye at a time, and flip down that lens while looking through the other. Simply switch and complete your makeup!
