Rampersad retains Primary School chess crown

The competition comprised of 17 participants including 2015 champion Rampersad who proved once again that he is the number one primary school chess player in Trinidad and Tobago, by securing five wins and a draw.

The national Under- 10 champion attends the TML Primary School in San Fernando and started the tournament with an intense battle against first-timer Juninho La Fleur who showed his opponent that retaining the title would be no easy task. However, Rampersad managed displayed his skills, critical thinking and quick moves as he lured his opponent into a false move and eventually defeat. Rampersad never looked back and went on to reclaim his trophy and the number one spot.

Second place in the championship went to Attwells Educational Institute’s Zara La Fleur, who also collected the trophy for the Champion Female Primary Schools Individual Chess Player of 2016. La Fleur registered five wins and one loss in her campaign.

Third-placed Marliyah Phillips of St Theresa’s Girls RC managed four wins, one draw and a loss in the tournament rounds. Rallying up the leaderboard in joint fourth place were St. Xavier’s Brad Munroe- Brown and Ka’lel Scoon who attends Rosary Boys’ RC.
