Suicide inside Petrotrin oil tank

The tank at Trinmar’s Tank Farm base, was filled with crude oil and according to a police report, the man identified as Curtis Pierre originally of Point Fortin, climbed to top of the tank at about 11 am on Saturday.

The company’s security guards were alerted and tried to persuade Pierre to climb down.

The fire service and police were called in. After several hours of failed attempts to coax Pierre down, he was not seen at the top of the tank.

A statement from Petrotrin’s manager of Corporate Communication, Gillian Friday, stated that Petrotrin officials responded with as much precaution as the situation would allow and even the company’s summoned its counselors in a desperate bid to convince Pierre to abandon his mission to end his life inside the tank. “Unfortunately, at around 8 pm, it was observed that the man was no longer visible on the tank. We extend condolences to his family.” When Newsday visited the scene yesterday, workers were draining the tank in a bid to find Pierre’s body. Point Fortin taxi driver Raymond Pascal who was near the scene, told Newsday that Pierre was a ‘PH’ driver who clearly had mental problems.

Pierre stayed at an unoccupied HDC building in an area called ‘Construction’ off Reid Road, in Point Fortin
